Scienceline on the iPad

Here's what I learned from building a scienceline App. (I made this site for a presentation at Science Online New York City in May 2012)

The Process

  We started with a website.

  Mag+

  Then we found a building platform.

• 

  Indesign

  Which let us design the app using Indesign.

• 

  Apple

  And push it out to the apple store.

Lessons

• 

  Know Your Platform

  We didn't really know anything about iPads... at all. So designing the user experience was a challenge. Know how people use the device you're designing for.

• 

  Know Your Content

  Why would someone read Scienceline on the iPad and not online? For us, the answer was bonus features.

• 

  Think Logistics

  What stories are you including? Why? How? How big will the app be?

• 

  Get a Great Team

  Work with awesome people and give them awesome tasks because if you do they will make awesome stuff.
